Ref: Now ID proof is compulsory………. trains. Hindustan Times 02/11/12

This is with reference to the news articles
published in the Hindustan Times on 02nd day of November 2012. Indian railway passed a law wherein identity
proof is mandatory for the passengers travelling even in the Non AC second
class reservation or slipper compartment. If by mistake or in hurry due to the
time schedule of Rail anybody forget to keep the identity card with him then
the passenger will be treated as the without ticket.
This is another law which will benefit to the
Ticket checkers and will increase the corruption at the part of the ticket
checkers. As in second class slipper the
maximum travelers are the non educated without having proper knowledge of law,
such types of law will certainly misused on the normal public, those who are
not carrying the identity card and treated as without ticket. If without ID proof passengers are treated as
without ticket then what is the use of ticket.
And if somebody is without ticket but with ID proof then what the
railway authorities will treat such passengers.
What is the intention of Indian Railways to
intact such type of law which is beyond the understanding. If Railways thinking at the security part
then it is none of the railway business.
Railway is not the law abiding body.
I used to travel across India; I have not shown
my Identity in the hotels upto 2000. But
since last five to six years it has become very difficult for the under signed
to procure a room without Identity card. In the year Oct. 2011 I had a trip to the
Unjha (Gujarat), Ajmer (Rajasthan) and
Ratlam of MP. I could not get the room
in Unjha. And in Ratlam hotel owner asked several questions with me and looked
like suspected at me, I could get the room only after satisfied him of my
identity and educational and social background.
But immediately after half an hour when I returned from my dinner one
police inspector with three stars and his assistant interrupted my way to room
in the lobby. I was not allowed to carry
the key of the room with me and the same is to be handover to the counter when
I have to move outside the hotel. Next
morning one Rajisthani family came for
room, the hotel owner was very comfortable and without suspected and identity
proof given room to them. Nor any police
came immediately after them to enter into the room.
If identity card is mandatory and laid down by
the statutory regulations, then why not to all, why that Rajisthani family has
not asked several questions and given room without any identity proof. Certainly
the railway law for the identity proof will be misused for the selected people
and not all. It is also become a source
of corruption. ID proof and treating the with ticket
passengers without ticket, merely for not possession of ID proof is foolish.
It is prayed set aside the illegitimate,
unreasonable and unauthorized demand of ID Proof by the Railway for the second
class passengers.
